Since its founding in 1959, the Alpha Epsilon Phi Foundation has been enriching the lives of AEPhi members by awarding scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate studies.
Currently, scholarship awards range from $3500 to $8000.
All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and will be scored based on academic performance; chapter, campus and community activities and financial need. Applicants for undergraduate scholarships MUST be initiated members who are rising juniors, and seniors. These women must be full-time students for the coming year.
Foundation awards several named scholarships that have been endowed by members, by membersβ families to honor or memorialize a loved one or by the Foundation Trustees to recognize the contribution of an alumna to Foundation or for outstanding accomplishments in their field of pursuit. Not all named scholarships are awarded on an annual basis. Current named scholarships are:
1909 Scholarships
This scholarship shall be awarded to the undergraduate and graduate applicant scoring the highest among all applicants and shall be in the amount of $1909.
Dana Parkans Katz Scholarship
This scholarship was created by the Foundation Trustees to honor the service of Dana Parkans Katz (Epsilon Eta, Emory University) who served as national president, Foundation president and NPC delegate. Priority is given to members active in the Greek community and majoring in education or math.
Beth Kersten Saul Scholarship for Panhellenic Involvement
The Beth Kersten Saul Scholarship for Panhellenic Involvement was created by the Foundation Trustees to honor the service of Beth Kersten Saul (Xi, University of Southern California) who served as a past National Council member, a past Foundation trustee, and a past National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) Chairman.
This scholarship will be awarded to a collegiate member that currently serves as a Panhellenic Representative or a Panhellenic Officer and /or has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the Panhellenic, Greek and University community. In addition to the required letter of recommendation from a professor or employer, to be considered for this scholarship applicants must include a letter of recommendation from the chapter/colony advisor and a campus Greek Life/university representative on letterhead.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg Scholarship
This scholarship shall be awarded to a student applying during her second year of law school who exhibits excellence in academic achievement and who shows financial need. This scholarship will NOT be awarded if there are no qualified applicants.
Alpha Iota Scholarship
This scholarship shall be awarded to a graduate student who was a member of Alpha Iota Chapter at the University of Minnesota. This scholarship will NOT be awarded if there are no qualified applicants from the Alpha Iota chapter.
Edith Hirsch Miller Scholarship
This scholarship shall be awarded, according to the gift letter, to a member who is Jewish and, when possible, is a member of Nu Chapter or a resident of Pittsburgh. If there is no qualified applicant from Nu Chapter or Pittsburgh, the Trustees may award this scholarship to another Jewish applicant.
Elizabeth Eldridge Bettelheim Scholarship
This scholarship was created by the Elizabeth E. Bettelheim Family Foundation in memory of Elizabeth Eldridge Bettelheim, Past National President of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority, first President of the Alpha Epsilon Phi Foundation, and founder of Omega Chapter, University of Texas at Austin.
Anne Klauber Berson Scholarship
This scholarship shall be awarded to an applicant from Kappa Chapter. If no applicant meets the specified criteria, the Trustees may award this scholarship to an otherwise qualified applicant.
Ruth Rosenbaum Goldfeder Scholarship
This scholarship shall be awarded to a California resident or a student attending a California school If no applicant meets the specified criteria, the Trustees may award this scholarship to an otherwise qualified applicant.
Judith Resnik Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship shall be awarded to a graduate student in engineering, the hard sciences or another related field who has a minimum GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and who shows financial need. This scholarship will NOT be awarded if there are no qualified applicants.
Patti Askwith Kenner Scholarship
This scholarship was created by the Indian Trail Charitable Foundation whose President Patti Askwith Kenner is an AEPhi who graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1966. Patti was the rush chair and president of the Alpha Nu Chapter and learned many important skills and values like Leadership and Philanthropy there. Patti wanted to give back to AEPhi with this scholarship for all she received and in memory of her mother Mimi Askwith who would have been able to finish Brooklyn College if she had received a scholarship.
Foundation trustee Cheryl Kraff-Cooper has endowed the Cheryl Kraff Cooper, MD Giraffe Fund. The fund provides one-time emergency grants, subject to the availability of funds, to initiated undergraduate members of Alpha Epsilon Phi in good standing who would otherwise be forced to withdraw from school. Applications are accepted at all times. For further information on this fund, contact the Foundation Development Director.
The Suzi Rudd Cohen Jewish Heritage and Programming Committee Fund also provides funding for members to attend conferences and conventions of various national Jewish organizations such as Hillel and the UJC Communities programs.
